The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK wide initiative that provides free capital grants of up to £7,500 to encourage homeowners and landlords in Wales to replace old, innefficient, fossil fuel heating systems with low-carbon alternatives like air-source heat pumps or, in some situations, biomass boilers.
[ DO YOU QUALIFY FOR A BUS? ]The scheme is open to homeowners, landlords and tenants (with the permission of the property owner) anywhere in Wales.
Low-carbon heating systems commissioned on or after 1 April 2022 are eligible for BUS funding, and the scheme is set to run until April 2028.
SOME FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
Up front costs: Whilst the Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides a capital grant for the necessary hardware, you should still expect some upfront costs for the installation, which will be itemised separately on your free quotation.
Suitability: Unfortunately, not all homes are suitable for heat pumps. Factors such as the size of your property, its insulation levels and existing heating system layout need to be considered.
Installation: Ensure that you use a reputable and qualified installer such as flotech for your heat pump or biomass boiler to guarantee a safe and efficient installation.
Hybrid heating: Please bear in mind that a BUS grant cannot be used for a hybrid heating system. . . a combination of gas boiler and air source heat pump for example.
